What Tennis Point Spreads Actually Mean
A tennis point spread — sometimes called a game handicap — gives one player a head start in games. If Djokovic is listed at -4.5 games, he needs to win by five games more than his opponent across the match for that line to cover. The opposite side, +4.5, covers if the underdog keeps it within four games or wins outright. Our
sportsbook lists both set spreads and game spreads depending on the matchup. Set spreads are simpler: -1.5 sets means the favorite must win in straight sets. Pulling up either format takes seconds on mobile.
